1/2 Day Whale Watch San Francisco

Hi

We have the chance to do a half day whale watch from San Francisco mid October. It would mean a little less time for sights in SF itself but we are already do WD Museum and Alcatraz and a few major sights.

1) Has anyone done this and is it worth it?
2) Can anyone recommend a company?

I've heard Oct is good for Whales and Sharks (which I love)

Thanks

Interested to know this also as going to SF in May next year. I asked a question about aquariums in a different post and I think that you can do whale watching out of the one in Monterrey - never even considered this before as hadn't realised you could do it. Some people on TA say you can get very seasick and although I am OK on the Dover - Calais ferry not sure how bad it might get!

Can't comment on the SF one but we did the one from Monterey in July. It was $48 for over 4 hours of sheer wonder - humpbacks, blue whales Risso's dolphins, sea otters, seals and with a marine biologist on board to give comment and answer questions. We thought it was a morning well spent and would certainly do it again. If you've been watching "Big Blue" on BBC you'll know there is a lot of activity going on along that coast right now.

We are another that didn't do SF, we did a longbeach trip.

It was a massive highlight of our trip and I would deffo recommend it.

Ive also been shark cage diving in South Africa, so seeing sharks is defiantly amazing too

Oh that's brilliant! I totally forgot you did this and I read all of your reports too. The water looked quite calm.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I'd love to do it from Monterey but we just don't have the time there. SF is are only option. But Monterey isn't too far south so that gives me hope.
