Mobile Northumberland recommendations please

In the absence of holidays abroad, we’re planning a couple of UK breaks in 2021.

We’ve got a lockdown puppy so it makes sense to stay closer to home and enjoy it with him too!

So we’re hoping for a trip to Northumberland. We’ve been to Alnwick and really want to explore the coast a little more. I’ve been looking at Seahouses as a base but don’t know the area at all so I’m looking for guidance. Is Seahouses a good base?we want to see Holy Island, Bamburgh and lots of beach dog walks.

Does anyone have any recommendations for holiday cottages? There are 2 of us plus the pup. All input gratefully accepted.

Seahouses is lovely, really easy on an evening to grab some food, shops, pubs, takeaways, etc, plus a nice walk on the beach. It’s a great central area for where you want to visit. We love Holy Island, remember to check the tide times The walk was fab, the kids really enjoyed seeing the seals.
Dunstanburgh Castle is also a great walk.

Seahouses is a fabulous base and with your new pup you can walk all the way up to beautiful Bamburgh & the wonderful castle. There is so much to see and do on that coast line. Make sure you know the tides change times if you venture across to Holy Island as the tide closes over the only way onto and off of it, but its so worth a visit. The Bamburgh Castle Inn in Seahouses is so dog friendly, you can sit and have a lovely meal with your pup with you there & I think they have updated the rooms since we stayed last time. They all made such a fuss of our dog when we were there last. Most places on that coast line are wonderfully dog friendly.

Seahouses sounds like a winner! That’s good to hear, thank you all. I’m really looking forward to it - I just wish we knew when it’ll be!

Just to throw in another option, I would also recommend Warkworth. It is a bit further south than Seahouses but still easy to get to Bamburgh and Holy Island.

We have stayed there at least 6 times over the last few years. Have a look at Coquet Cottages for accommodation in both Warkworth and Northumberland in general.

Warkworth is on the coast, has a number of excellent pubs/restaurants/coffee shops/shops and is next door to Amble with another great range of eating/shopping options.

Give me a shout if you want any more information.

Newton by sea was where we stayed in 2019, just south of sea houses. Fantastic pub there and you can walk to several beautiful beaches

We live on Northumberland coast. I can totally recommend Cresswell/Duridge bay beaches. There is also Duridge bay country park where there is a park, walk round lake and can go on the beach from there. There are also water sports available if that’s your kind of thing.

Also Thrunton woods is very popular with lots of different walks. Popular for people with dogs and mountain bikers

If you are in National Trust, Cragside is lovely too.

Walk from Craster along to Dunstanburgh castle.
So many nice places, we are really lucky to live nearby!
