My mum paid my dad’s bus fare. He’d been in the Polish army and was in a camp just outside the town. He couldn’t work out what the driver was asking him for so my mum paid. He always joked he’d been paying ever since!

Boys and girls at school separated by a brick wall.

The boys used to climb up and look at the girls playing netball.

Mum threw the ball at Dad and smacked him between the eyes... He always said he was giddy ever after.

Dad was a policeman and used to be conveniently positioned at strategic points on mums route from her office to the bus stop every day at 5pm. He was quite a shy man, so it started with a smile, then a hello, until one day he finally plucked up the courage to start a conversation and started walking along beside her - only for someone to stop him asking for directions while mum carried on walking! If he wasn't on duty, she would spot him looking out his window as his flat overlooked the bus stop.

They had to postpone their original wedding date as dad was seriously ill for many months and ended up having major surgery. Mum travelled miles every evening through a horrendous winter to visit him in Edinburgh Royal Infirmary. One day, dad phoned and insisted she didn't come because of bad snow. That evening, the people she normally travelled with had a very serious car accident.

They were married 49 years.

My brother and his fiancee went to senior school together ( had no interest in each other) but started to work together about 8yrs after they left school. Both were with other partners at the time. They have been together 30yrs.

My dad and his mates were all standing chatting when my mums bike fell over (it had been standing in the curb while she shopped) dad picked it up & mum said in a very posh voice "thank God there are still some gentlemen about". She was just 18 dad was 24 & was engaged to someone else but broke it off as he said the moment mum spoke he was hooked.
Mum died at 66 but they were married for 48 years & it broke dads heart - true love.

They got chatting in a local 'working mens club' type place. My Mum left to catch the bus home and my Dad came running after and uttered the well known romantic phrase...'Do you like crabs?!?!'. She said no and got on the bus home

Apparently some bloke was selling them in the pub and my Dad thought they might help him win my Mum over!

Anyway it must have worked somehow because they were married for for 32 years when my Dad passed away 14 years ago.
