Thank you everyone. My anxiety which was high to start with it reaching atmospheric proportions tonight. Hoping to get some decent sleep and feel a little better tomorrow.

So sorry this happened to you. I highly recommend having a fire blanket in the kitchen for peace of mind. My DH was a retained Fire Fighter for almost 20 years, and insists we have one. Thankfully never had to use it, but knowing it’s there means I wouldn’t have to think about what to do if this should happen.

Glad you were able to put it out and I hope there isn’t too much damage.

Two years ago this month we had a fire. I was in shower and husband noticed it getting a bit “steamy” in the living room. Went into the kitchen to see flames coming from the boiler. Shouted fire at me to get the shower off and as I got out asking how bad heard him on phone to fire brigade. Thankfully the only damage was the boiler as us turning the gas off on our way out the house stopped it then fire brigade were able to cut the supply. Longest two days with no heating and hot water though!

That's a really good price for an important piece of kit.

I keep a fire blanket and a small extinguisher in my kitchen cupboard.
