I’m so sorry for you and your family (minus the Alzheimer’s) we had the exact same at the start of lock down it’s still so raw now. Think we are still in shock.

OP I am so sorry. Those of us that have been there with Alzheimer’s totally understand the real mixture of emotions.

My dad had Alzheimer’s for a number of years but went into a sudden decline in October 2017 unfortunately whilst in Florida and on my 40th birthday trip. 10 days later he didn’t know me and he died at Christmas that year.

In that time I went through every possible emotion and what I would say in retrospect is don’t judge yourself for whatever you feel it is natural and lots of us totally understand.

I remember your previous posts as my Dad had vascular dementia and was in a nursing home for a few years before he passed away and your feeling of guilt is not unusual. It is obvious from your posts that you love your Dad very much and you have nothing to be guilty for.

When my Dad passed away I found it hard to grieve as I felt relief that he was no longer having to live the life of confusion and pain and he was at peace. I remember the good times and cherish the memories I have and while the next few days will be hard in time you will be able to look back on his life with happy memories and put the bad times to rest.

I hope you and your family are able to visit over the next few days and he passes peacefully. Sending cyber hugs xx
