VA upgrades

Hi there, does anyone know how the bidding works for VA upgrades?
If I submit an online offer/bid for an upgrade, when do you find out if your successful?

They normally don't offer anything if you ring the price is set by the revenue department, if it is close to the date of the flight and they have a few seats available they sometimes email passengers with a cost to upgrade.

Last time i bid on seats we werent advised till 2 days before the holiday - they will hold onto their seats aslong as possible to see if they can get full price for them first
