MAN - JFK - MCO : Is 2 hours enough to get from T5 to T2?
Hi everyone, hopefully this is 4th time lucky as we move our 2020 trip again to 2022. This time we are looking at indirect flights via JFK and was hoping to get your thoughts on whether 2 hours is enough of a stopover to get from T2 to T5 at JFK.

Aer Lingus currently fly into terminal 5 at JFK, the terminal 2 listed on your booking is for Manchester. So you shouldn't have to change terminals at JFK unless EL move to the new T8 along with the other oneworld airlines once it's finished.
Having said that, I typically prefer a 3 hour layover since you'll have to clear immigration and customs on arrival at JFK. |

So AL used to only fly from Dublin which allowed them to land in the (domestic) Jetblue terminal. You just walked off and you were right at the gate for your next flight, not even far enough to stretch your legs after the flight. As the MAN flights won't have cleared immigration on this side of the pond I'm not sure how it will work. Usually, for JFK I'd also be more comfortable with 3 hours but Jetblue had many flights down to MCO and they have to get you there and I would think the MAN-JFK will have plenty of people connecting on to MCO so I wouldn't worry about it too much.

Having done JFK numerous times 2 hours is tight even in the same terminal. Immigration can be a nightmare, even using the fast lane for connections 2hrs and under. I like to have a minimum of three hours if possible.

JFK T5 which is largely JetBlue, now also handles international arrivals.
OP - The Aer Lingus JFK-MAN flights are showing as departing from JFK T5 on the Aer Lingus website, so I would be fairly sure that JFK-MAN will also arrive at T5 (tows between terminals are not unknown at JFK, but this flight has a 2 hour turnaround, so a terminal shift for the aircraft is unlikely, even for a single aisle aircraft). I’ve never done an international arrival at T5, but 2 hours is certainly possible for a same terminal connection. There won’t be too many international flights arriving, but also depends how many immigration desks are staffed. The single aisle aircraft means the Aer Lingus flight won’t have as many passengers as most transatlantic flights. It will be necessary to clear immigration, collect any checked bags and drop them off for the domestic flight, before reclearing security. Perfectly doable, though not huge contingency for delays. JetBlue will get you to MCO if the connection is missed, hopefully the same day, looks like there is one further JetBlue flight to MCO after this one. Edited at 05:25 PM. |
