Jury duty advice asap

I came home from work this evening to a letter from the courts. Apparently i have been called for jury service for next wed but i didnt receive the letter. Also the letter i got today was dated 9th september and it said i must reply within 7 days but obviously this is outwith the 7 days. Also i go to alton towers next thurs for 2 nights. i am so stressed as i dont want to be fined fir not replying to this letter. They were closed by the time i got home. Does anyone have any advice? It will be a long week end until i can actually speak to someone!

Thanks!

All you can do is phone them when they reopen and explain. I got a letter last week for jury service when I’m going to be away next month, I phoned them and explained and they excused me. No evidence of holiday was required. Can’t guarantee that every court will be so understanding and make it so easy, but don’t worry about it.

I would just phone them when they open and explain. They don’t send the letters by special delivery (or they didn’t used to) so any problems with delivery of normal post currently Im sure would have to be taken into consideration.

From memory I think you can only defer once though.

You can try this letter….

“I look forward to jury service. I am a lifelong admirer of the Police and indeed have many friends within the Force. As such, I now fully understand the British judicial system and the hurdles that an investigation must go through in order to even reach a Crown Court. I very much look forward therefore to convicting the guilty defendant once I have heard the evidence”

They are all guilty so why have a trial anyway just go to the sentencing, they still birch them don’t they.

Mine had an email address on it to reply to.
I scanned the relevant documents that excused me and sent them off.
I had been away when the original letter arrived so was outwith the cutoff date but everything was fine.
I was able to attend the day I was asked to but advised them I couldn’t do anything more than that.

If they have 'that look about them', they are guilty.

Silly socks or tie always convinced me of guilt.. and you can always tell a natural suit wearer from a criminal disguised in a suit.

I have a letter excusing me for life. My Dad a Police Officer in 1977 wrote it for me saying I saw it as my duty in life to convict all people charged with an offence and to convince the Jury of their guilt.
Banned for life. Saved me a fortune. Well done Dad
