Back up in case problem with credit card
I am taking my Halifax Clarity card but was wondering what people take as a back up in case there is a problem with it or it's lost or stolen. My choice would be dollars or a Halifax debit card. What would you do?

We take Halifax Credit Card, a Fairfx card witha small amount on it ( we can load more at any time), a small amount of cash, a Debit Card, and most important two further CCs. Theses cc are for emergencies, for example medical expenses before the Travel insurance kicks in, or getting home in a hurry due to a family emergency at home etcetc.
Perhaps a bit OTT but it’s how it’s developed during my years of many business trips. I always had multi methods of payment. Edited at 11:23 PM. |

I have Amex and a curve card linked to my other credit cards. No fx fees on the curve and Amex will replace a lost card anywhere in the world in something like 48hrs

As well as a credit card we also take a zero fees currency card such as Revolut or Starling, plus a bit of cash.

My Halifax Clarity credit card is for use only abroad. As a back up I take my day to day credit card and a small amount of cash.

I have a Revolut card, Post Office credit card and a debit card with some cash. I also take an additional credit card as back up that stays in the safe. I like to be covered.

I take my Clarity card but also have a Revolut (my wife also has each of these in separate accounts so that's 4 cards available). I will also take the rest of my cards for absolute emergencies (Barclaycard, Nationwide, VA card, AMEX, IHG and a Curve). Whilst they may not be the cheapest way to get money (although Curve now is FX transaction free) if it's a real emergency then that is of little relevence.
I will also have numerous debit cards but they would be the last to be used whilst overseas

previously we took a santander zero card and a fairfx prepay, along with a couple of normal credit cards for emergencies.
recently, we've stopped with fairfx and moved to a monzo bank account as well as the zero card, and then a couple of normal cards in case theres an issue. we usually keep *at least* one card well hidden somewhere in the villa in case my wallet gets lost/stolen also have android pay on our phones, but last time, most places didnt accept it |
