Isabel and I are planning Christmas!

Thank you, sincerely, for all the wonderful wishes, gifts and prayers from so many Dibbers - I was so touched people had come back to the last thread yesterday and remembered it was our appointment today to get results and wish us well.

I’m so pleased to tell you, finally, that things are finally looking a bit more positive for Izzy

We met the oncologist this morning to assess the progress over the 10 weeks since starting the cabozantinib therapy.

It shows that ALL the tumours - kidney, liver and in the bones have shrunk! Additionally he said he was pleased with how well she was tolerating the actual treatment itself, as many patients just can’t and have to come off it.

Back in July, during the initial diagnosis, an MRI showed a small crack in the lower part of her spine. Although she’s not feeling pain there, he said it was now more noticeable - perhaps where tumour has shrunk away from it.

We are going back to Clatterbridge next week for a more detailed MRI of that fracture and will meet him again the week after to see if he thinks, after discussion with orthopaedic surgeons, whether it warrants an operation to try to improve the healing of this.

This is the best possible result we could have hoped for today and we are remaining hopeful that the fracture in the spine will be able to heal itself without surgery.

Isabel and I have spent the afternoon planning Christmas 🎄. We called at a garden centre and decided we’d go back to a real tree - we haven’t had one for 5 or 6 years, and she may well have even persuaded DH to have Christmas projections on the front of the house How could he say no to her?

We celebrated with a cappuccino and toastie (as she can’t have alcohol with her treatment), and I’m hoping all of us will sleep a LOT better than we have for the last few nights.

Can I pass on my best wishes to all you lovely Dibbers, but especially the people who have shared their own personal cancer journeys over the past few months. It’s a bit like being part of a special club - just one you don’t want to be part of.

I appreciate all the messages and the solace this site has brought me over the very worst few months of my life. I wish a peaceful and happy Christmas for us all, whatever personal challenges we may face.

What fantastic news, and what a lovely photo of you both. My DD often asks how Izzy is doing even though she has been in Utila since the beginning of October, I hope she continues to improve and you can all have a fantastic Christmas.

Wow wow wow and more wow! That's just amazing news, I'm so happy for you all. And just what you deserve especially in the run up to Christmas.

Hopefully the fracture will be able to heal itself and will save any need for surgery.
