Has anyone ever rented their room out on Air B&B?
Lots of people in my village do this regularly for a big annual event that's hosted very close to us, we've never seriously considered it as have only been here 2 years and have been away at that time.
We've been talking about it for this year, so just after any experiences / horror stories anyone may have before taking the plunge! We have 2 double rooms we could let, neighbours are renting for over £300 a room per night on a room only basis so there's some serious money to be had for doing very little, but I just don't know if i'm up for opening my home up to strangers and all the potential risks that invites! We'd be here btw, not talking renting the house out. Hit me with your experiences!

Not me personally but my neighbour opposite rents out her spare double bedroom on Air BnB and has done for about 4 years now.
As we live near Heathrow she gets mostly guests staying for the night before a flight but sometimes has someone for a few months at a time if they have a temporary contract in London or the airport. As far as I’m aware she’s never had any major problems, she doesn’t enjoy doing it full time but it’s a means to help pay her mortgage. I’m sure doing it for a short period of time would be fine and as you say very lucrative. A friend of mine did it for the Rugby World Cup as she lives in Twickenham and earned a small fortune! She never encountered any problems either |

I would at the very least make sure a lock is installed on your family's bedroom doors. If you don't want to install one permanently there are ones you can buy to temporarily fit onto doors - we have one for hotel doors when going on holiday.

For that kind of money no. We considered it for the Golf Open before but people around us were getting up to £20 000 to rent out their house. We were tempted but didn't.

First consideration has to be your house insurance and making sure it covers you for subletting so that if anything did go wrong you are covered.
@catherinesian Interested in these temporary locks. Do you have an example? |

I have one similar to this
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Portable-Additional-Protection-Traveling-Apartment/dp/B07X2WMB9J/ref=sr_1_11?keywords=hotel+door+lock&qid=158030255 3&sr=8-11 it fits onto the door and stops the door being opened from the outside. It only works on open in doors (most doors)
