Uni is anyone worried?

After what’s happening in Scotland is anyone worried about their kids. I feel bad, I’m sending my dd off tomorrow to sit in her room at Halls with one actual lesson a week and then isolation from Monday for a week. Matt Hancock is talking about kids staying at uni for Christmas and not coming home. What if my dd wants to get on the train and come home for a visit is that allowed? My heart goes out to kids in Scotland at uni

I really feel for all the kids (and the parents) going to Uni, either first time or going back. Really not sure what I would do if it was my kids but definitely would be worried about my ds who has MH issues and would have struggled left on his own like that a few years ago. I understand where Matt Hancock is coming from re Christmas but I think he will end up with a real crisis on his hands if he does say they have to stay at Uni!

Good luck to everyone and big hugs xx

Cynical old me thinks he is saying this about Christmas to make them "behave".

Not sure if I’m being dim here, but if all the lessons are online anyway why can’t they do them from home? Do they really have to be on campus?

Sandra, I get the feeling that wild horses couldn’t keep you from fetching your DD if she became poorly - just like me. Of course you will worry and DD will miss you and feel homesick ... probably through boredom to begin with! But Film Studies is quite a sociable course and the Uni will be working hard to offer alternative student activities to help them all settle in, eg, film nights so she will be ok!

She may be able to come home for visits, depending on local restrictions of course. You can always pop down to fetch her

I totally get where you're coming from, my friend and I were discussing this this morning and saying how worrying it is if you're a uni parent. No parent wants their child stuck in halls alone over Christmas. I really hope it doesn't come to that for you.

My dd is very anxious like me, once she settles in and hopefully makes a friend or two she will be fine. Then she is chatty, sociable, up for a laugh and loves going out, she sitting her bedroom feeling sick at the moment. I just want it to be a good experience for her, if things don’t work out I’m bringing her home. Saying that I want it to work out even if it’s just a friends in Halls, at the moment she’s sharing with 3 lads so I hope there’s another female! I’m not telling her my worries so you lot have to listen instead!

I know several that have gone off to Uni, Aberdeen (1 hr north from us) and Dundee (40 mins away). One girl is doing history, all can be done online, she has to attend classes 4 days next week. They've had 6 months to sort this out. How many other student courses can all be done online, instead ship them in from all over the world, not just the UK then lock them up! I've also been told of another student in Aberdeen who was at parties all last week
