Not done it yet but this year we are doing 9 nights in Orlando, six nights on the gulf coast at treasure island then flying Tampa to Knoxville and staying in a cabin in Sevierville which we booked today. Allegiant fly from Tampa to Knoxville direct and there are two airlines that fly from Fort Lauderdale direct to Knoxville not sure about the other Florida airports and flights to the smoky mountains region. We can't book our internal flights just yet as they have not been released. We have booked flights with virgin from Manchester to Orlando and from Knoxville back to Manchester via Atlanta. We are very excited. I have wanted to visit the smokies for ages and was devastated to hear about the recent forest fires.

We often combine orlando with the smokey mountains we have friends who live there it's amazing for all we are an outdoor family and can do so much summer and winter but loads to do see for every body we can spend hours on their deck high up watching the wild life especially the couple of resident mummy bears and the new cubs they have and although
The raccoon family are a pain the first question every morning have they cracked the bin lock yet (normally takes them about a week ) and they drive the dogs nuts razing them from the safety of the garden and the dogs are at the deck doors |

We did a caribbean cruise and a trip to the Smokys back in 2012. Was amazing! We drove up from Port Canaveral and stayed in the Preserve location of the mountains. The scenery was to die for.
So much to do too. We booked our cabin through Sugar Maple Cabins but I think they've been bought over now I did a full trip report with loads of photo's. I've attached the link below to the index https://www.thedibb.co.uk/forums/sho...d.php?t=657082 |

Ours was called deer crest cabin.
We loved it,sat in the hot tub, under the stars, with a nice drink, fantastic views! We booked through pioneer management company.very straightforward, was given the key code to the door,so no messing around, when we arrived late evening. If you google deer crest cabin,it will come up. We will definitely return to the smokies. Tracy x

We're doing this this summer, albeit not staying in Orlando.
We fly into Orlando, stay overnight as getting in about 8pm, then drive up to Aiken staying the night just to break journey; a night in Asheville to check out that side of the mountains, then drive across the Blue Ridge Parkway and down to Gatlinburg for a week in a log cabin. We're then staying in Rotonda for 2 and1/2 wks, so will drive down through the bottom of the Smokys and stay overnight in Macon, again just to break the journey. We booked the cabin through VRBO. Can't wait! |
