We have booked a stretched limo for the day (6 hours) Picking us up at the hotel and the driver is at your command (free drinks an snacks inc). It all sounds good to me and my DD cant wait to be a pop star for the day! While we get to see the sights(well as many as possible !)

As mentioned above the Universal tour is part of Universal Studios and while very good it is, as you'd expect, more theme park like with 3D attractions and stuff incorporated. You go round in a long connected tram and get a narrated tour - the quality of this seems to vary - the first time we did it a few years ago the guide gave lots of Universal history and film info, but the last time (this summer) there was a lot less on this and a lot more plugging current and upcoming Universal Tv shows. Whether this was due to a change in overall approach or down to the guides I don't know.

The Paramount studio tour was excellent. We did the standard tour and went round in a small buggy (7 people on the tour) with loads of chances to ask questions. It's more focused on the history of Paramount and its films rather than film making itself (I think the VIP tours cover more of this).

Warners we haven't done but supposed to be good and a little more 'themed' than Paramount but less so than Universal. There's also a Sony (formerly MGM) tour however this one is a walking tour.

In terms of other things to do in LA, it's such a big city there is naturally loads to do. It does seem to be a love it or hate it city, however my family love it. We have already spent 13 nights there across holidays and have decided next time we come we will stay solely in LA (well, one of the beach areas at least). A few suggestions:

- Hollywood - Dolby Cinema at the Hollywood and Highland Centre (Oscars), Graumans Chinese Theatre, El Capitan cinema, Walk of Fame, Capitol Records Building, various historic restaurants and bars associated with Hollywood heyday, Paramount studios, Hollywood Forever cemetery (with movies if still showing in September).
- Griffith Park and Observatory.
- Mulholland Drive (great drive and some fantastic view point stop offs).
- Drive up beachwood canyon for an up close of Hollywood sign.
- Gentle walk in Runyon Canyon
- Star spotting at the farmers markets (especially then ones in Studio City and Santa Monica).
- Beverley Hills / Rodeo Drive / Bel air
- Beverley centre and Grove
- La brea tar pits
- Sunset Boulevard ( Chateau Marmont, Viper rooms, Whisky a go-go etc, plus Carneys hotdogs!)
- LA Downtown (City Hall, Walt Disney Symphony Hall, Angels Flight, Grand central market, Bradbury building (Bladerunner), Union Station, Olivera street (Historic centre of LA), loads of art galleries, original stage coach in the Wells Fargo bank, BOA tower).
Galleries and Museums - Science museum, Natural History, Getty Centre, Getty Villa.
Beach resorts - Santa Monica, Venice, Marina Del Ray, Manhattan, Long beach

Have fun planning!
Hi

Thank you so much for all this info. It's great! Myself and 3 of our party have been to LA/Hollywood before but we only did 2 days and loved it, but felt this was deffo not enough time, Donnie we are staying for 7nights.

Re - viper rooms etc, are you able to go in these bars or do you need to be a member (as I know this is owned by JDepp)

Would you suggest that a car is necessary?
