I phoned up Hertz reservations ( despite what their website says I believe you get a better deal that way) and asked for a price having told them all the airline loyalty clubs and credit cards I hold and they picked that one as best discount.
£414 for 3 weeks prepaid SUV, well pleased with that as I like Hertz and find their service excellent. It may be possible to get it cheaper elsewhere but I am delighted with that price and have the hire company I want.

We booked through Hertz and the Gold level, we received a text on landing to say which bay our car was in and we were able to drive straight out. On return we were charged $111 for fuel.

I reckon to fill our SUV wont cost $70 Having said that Hertz promise to be no dearer than local garages

TBH I would go to the garage and chance my luck. Much less crowded than the normal desk in the airport (most of the time anyway). (That was the year we were offered a free upgrade to a Mustang but couldn't take it as DS needed a car seat and he wouldn't have been comfortable in the back of the Mustang.  )
