Hi Carolynn - thanks for all that info! Sounds good Good logic anyway! We had a D1 last time too - are you saying that D1's now are ONLY on the hump or do you have to *find* a D1 on the hump still?
Spoke to DH about it last night but about an hour after I didn't get a 'no' (! ) I got an email from the person who had sent me the cheapest quote saying he had quoted me for 2 and not for 4! Typical! Sally - I think the US is just more geared towards bargains and coupons and the best service they can possibly give in comparison to the UK.. The cruise price differences you have quoted are just unbelievable... I haven't tried to get a quote in £ yet but will do it just for comparison... Let us know how you get on x

Have you got access to the latest Deck plans? – you can download them here
oasisoftheseas/eBrochure.php Check out the videos here as well – amazing oasisoftheseas/video.php D1 cabins are located on Decks 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12 and 14 (there is no deck 13). They are all on the first front hump. There are 7 cabins port and 7 cabins starboard making 14 D1 cabins per deck (112 in total). If you choose a D1 then it will definitely be on the hump. There is also a 2nd hump nearer the back of the ship but these are for Royal, Presidential, Owners and Junior Suites. Again, cabins I would love but very much out of my price range. Personally I love the ‘hump’ cabins as it means you have an unobstructed view to the front of the ship, and usually the back, but as this has a second hump then probably not. There is not much of a price difference between a D1 and D2 and considering you get a bigger balcony then it is worth it, but the difference between a D1 and D8 can be bigger (depending on when you are going). If location is not an issue then definitely look at D8’s. I initially priced up a D1, D4 and D8 and I think it was about £100 difference for the 2 of us so we chose the D1. Also, is there going to be 4 of you in 1 cabin? – if so then you will have to check which have sofa or Pullman beds. I know about ½ of the D1’s have sofa beds but not Pullmans. You may even be better with a Family Stateroom with balcony (FB) – Two twin beds (can convert to queen size). Sofa converts to double, two Pullman beds. (271sq.ft. / 25.2m2, balcony 82sq.ft. / 7.6m2) but there are not many of these and they do sell out fast. To get an idea of price, I always use the RCI.co.uk site – I choose the date I am looking at and cost up excluding flights (I find RCI flights too expensive). This will then give you a breakdown of what is available and the price. I always price up the weeks either side of when I am looking to see if there is much of a price difference. Alternatively, just call RCI direct and tell the dates and how many of you are going. Get then to list all the types of cabins available to you – and then have a look on the webiste to see which appeals. Once you have chosen a date and category then start to ring round. Remember also that if you are a Crown & Anchor member (which tou should be as you have already sailed RCI) then you ‘may’ be entitles to a further discount, depending on your status, the ship you sail and the category you choose. Always worth asking about. I usually call Travelcare and tell them what I am looking at – the date and cabin etc. Usually they come in at about 10% less what I have seen on RCI website. I have just recommended someone else to them and when they mentioned my name they also got the 10% off. Now I am sure there are many other UK cruise specialists who will do this 10% (some maybe more) but I feel comfortable using them. I know other TA’s like Virgin etc have a huge mark up on cruises, so they end up being dearer than RCI. To give you an idea how much we paid, we booked in May 2010 and have a D1. The cabin without flights, but incl gratuities etc is coming in at around £900-£950 per person, per week. Not cheap I know, but I also priced up Freedom in a similar priced cabin at the same time of year and that was the same! By the way, did you know she floats out on Friday………… |
