Sharing a dining table - do you have to?

I know it sounds silly but, I really want to book a 3 night cruise for August. Thing that is bothering me is table sharing for dinner. We are not animals or anything , its just the chit chat thing or getting a family from hell that latch on to us ( these things always happen to us lol)
My dh and children are not chatty people and tend to give one word answers only. The chat is always left to me, personally I dont mind, but my 3 unsociable kin arn't keen. I know they will find it awkward.

How have you all found it? I need to reasure them it will be okay, lol.

I know exactly how you feel. I was exactly the same and felt that all the conversation would be left to me. We personally requested a table for ourselves and there was no issue with this at all. However a lot of people describe the wonderful experiences of meeting up with new people and thoroughly enjoying the interaction and subsequent friendships that they have made through sharing a table with others. But it is your holiday and no part of it should be making you feel uncomfortable or worried.

If you are a party of four, there shouldn't be an issue with this as there are plenty of tables just for four...

We asked for a table for 4, which we got. For us it was a better arrangement, although we did chat to the people on the next table to us.
Like you the kids were please we did not have to share.
As far as I remember there were quite a few tables for smaller groups in the dining rooms.

Hi we have done 2 cruises and the first night at the table is always been a bit nervy but I can say yhat the people we have had as table guests have been excellent and great company , Yes you do see them round the ship but that was about the only contact we had with them outside the meal .
I would not hesitate to dine with other guests after our experience

You can put in a request which DCL will try to honour... but do not guarentee.

... the other thing is that, if you do end up sharing, DCL will most likely put you together with someone who has a kid, or kids, the same age as yours... and infact it does quite often end up in the kids having a good time socially at meal times !

We did 3 nights on the Wonder last year 2 ad, 2 ch. We didn't request our own table but we were seated ourselves. The tables at either side of us were very close (enough room for servers to pass! ) one side had two girls the same as our kids and the other table looked like mum and dad with older kids in their 30's. The table with the younger kids got on very well with ours and our server JoJo from the Phillipines was excellent with them, telling jokes and doing "Magic Tricks". We didn't have much conversation with the other table.

From 4 Disney cruises we have had table guests on 3 of them. 1st 2 cruises they were brilliant, we made friends and they contributed greatly towards our enjoyment of the cruises. 3rd one the kids were great but the parents were strange, arrived upto 30 mins late every night but we got on very well with their 3 kids who were always on time.
4th DCL at Easter we had table to ourselves.
5th DCL next year look forward to meeting more people.

Also done 2 RCCL but ate in buffet every night as their buffets are 10 times better than DCL so never got into seated dining rooms.

Meeting other people is part of cruising for me, prefer larger tables.

Wayne, I wish my dh had the same way of thinking. I will chat to anyone, but he is very quiet.

Thanks everyone else for your input, I will request a table for 4 when we arrive.
