Get there early and take the hop on hop off train ride, it takes you right around StAugustine and gives you a good idea of what there is to see. There's a good info centre right next to the multi storey car park. It's a good day out and one we look forward to when we visit florida.

We did it in a day last September. We left Orlando at 7am and arrived in St Augustine at 9am. We had bought tickets on line for the hop on hop off trolley and parked in their car park. We were on the 1st trolley and we jumped off to walk down St Georges Street and had breakfast at The Bunnery, bu which time the shops were opening. There are lots of lovely places to shop. We then caught the trolley to the San Sebastian Winery, where we did the free wine tasting tour, followed by a tour round the Whetstone chocolate factory. This is not free, but a discount can be got if you buy the ticket from the Trolley company. We then got back on the trolley to go back to the shopping street and bought some spices. We then got back on the trolley to do the full circuit - but the weather drew in and we made it back to the car park and left round 4.30pm. We had barely scratched the surface of the place - there was, in our opinion far too much to see in a short day. I am so hoping that we are able to go back and spend a few days up there to be able to go to the museums etc. If you are happy to drive for 2 hrs there and 2hrs back - then it is a lovely place to visit.

We've been twice and it is well worth the drive. Great contrast to Orlando and the parks. As OP says get the trolley tour to get orientated and see the sights.

We did a trip to St Augustine during our holiday in Orlando last month. Really enjoyable, plenty to do and so different from the theme park areas.
We stayed one night in a beautiful bed and breakfast in the centre of the town called Peace and Plenty - would have no hesitation in returning. Enjoy!

Definately worth the trip for an over night but there isn't much more than an over night worth to see and do.
