The boats from the Boardwalk go between Epcot International Gateway and Hollywood Studios stopping at the Boardwalk, Yacht and Beach Club and Swan and Dolphin resorts en route. It's a 20-30 minute trip altogether including stops. The boat to Wilderness Lodge is from Magic Kingdom, they are in different areas of WDW and the waterways are not connected. There are also several boat routes from DTD to the resorts in that area POR/POFQ/SSR & OKW.

either DHS or Epcot the boats run between the two stopping off at the resorts in between, have a look on a map and you will see the route along the waterway

The boatride at the Boardwalk is definitely not a whole day thing - even if you look around all the resorts - its more of a way to travel around rather than an attraction in and of itself. Its a really nice way to get around, but no more than that.
