Walt Disney World to Demolish Speedway for Parking

Walt Disney World plans to demolish the speedway at it's Magic Kingdom park to make way for a parking lot expansion. The speedway was home to The Exotic Driving Experience which closed earlier this year after a fatality at the track. The speedway is currently home to the Richard Petty Racing Experience and that will be closing in August 2015.

Disney has filed plans to demolish the speedway track and use the land to expand it's current parking lot.

The Magic Kingdom has expanded quite a bit over the last couple of years with the park seeing 19 million visitors last year so extra parking capacity is always welcome. Disney has not released details of how many extra parking spaces will be created or when the expansion will be completed.

Umm if capacity for parking has increased this much the surely the expansion of rides and size of parks if not parks themselves surely needs to increase as well before they think about more parking spaces

The reason for this is the car park does max out before the park reaches capacity. More and more are using cars now to get there than before.

I wondered why I couldn't find the driving experience on ATD any more., my partner was thinking about doing it later this year... Didn't realise there was a fatality...

Can't say I've ever ridden the speedway but I'll certainly to sad to see it go.

This is the plan for the new parking spaces relative to the speedway.

So not much of the available space is being used.



I do believe that there will be eventually a new Plaza and roads redone so you don't have the current dangerous situation when driving to GF/CR etc and with the buses. Plan is for this traffic to bypass the plaza completely.
