Great thread thanks everyone, lots of helpful tips! Is it weird to be excited about packing?!

We are flying in/ out LA travelling north along PCH making 3 stops ( 5 nights) then in to SF ( for my birthday) 3 nights. Onwards to Yosemite, Death Valley and Vegas 5 nights. 1 night at Palm Springs before returning to LA for 5 nights ( 23 in total) .

We did this route earlier this year - only in reverse!

Talking of packing, our road trip took some organising! We stayed in 11 hotels in total! We loved it though!
There were 4 of us, each had a case each containing all our own stuff packed into zipper bags inside it, Tshirts in one, shorts in another etc. It worked OK for us and we'll probably do the same on our next road trip this October.

Sounds fantastic - and quite familiar - we did the same route, although can't really remember how long we stayed or where, other than a few days in SF, and a few in Vegas. We'd booked the wedding bit and the stay at Caesars, but other than the first night we had nothing booked, and drove places, did stuff, and then walked into the nearest motel to sleep. We didn't get to Death Valley - it was pretty much closed due to it being too hot (July) - that's why we need to go back. Are you visiting the Grand Canyon? - we flew there for the day from Vegas, I'd really recommend it if you get the chance.

We are doing this as well next May but in reverse, into Las Vegas and out of LA after travelling and staying down the PCH.

Could someone post a link of these cubes for packing. I have not heard of them but like the sound of them. How much do you generally pay for them.

I have ordered these ones whichever I got from Amazon.

I already have them in purple and used them for our walking holiday last year and they were fab for keeping things neat in our rucksacks. They come from china so take ages for delivery but if you are not in a hurry they are a great price.

Thanks will look at these. Will have to figure out how to use them but I was wondering how we would cope with the packing unpacking and trying to find stuff.

If you're going to buy bags, make sure they're either mesh, or have decent sized windows so that you can see what is inside, otherwise all you'll do is replace unpacking time with constantly unzipping bags time - and take less stuff. Always take less stuff.
