Seahouses and the Farne Islands

I mentioned on a previous thread about this, that my Auntie would love this trip for her special birthday - well I have now booked an extended family trip for June!

If anyone can recommend any good places for coffee and cake or restaurants, please let me know!

I have already booked a couple of Billy Shiel's boat trips and the hotel.

Thanks so much!

An early welcome to Northumberland and I really hope the weather will be kind for the boat trip - when the Puffins are around they are a fantastic sight.

Where are you staying and will you have a car?

I'll try not to bombard you with ideas for places to eat but here are my first suggestions.

Bamburgh -

Potted Lobster
The Lord Crewe Arms
Copper Kettle Tea Rooms
or the newly opened Walled Garden Tea https://bamburghwalledgarden.co.uk/ its next to the free RNLI Grace Darling Museum

Seahouses

The Olde Ship Inn

Craster

The Jolly Fisherman - great crab sandwiches.

Alnwick

If you go inland a must visit is Barter Books - has a lovely little cafe and if the weather is unkind an absolute treasure to spend hours in the book shop. The original Keep Calm and Carry On poster was found here.

And if you Google https://runningfoxbakery.co.uk/ you'll be able to see if there is one near where you will be staying/passing - if you do visit just ask them for a box for the leftovers (the staff are quite used to that). But make sure to pre-book as they can be very busy.

Can I also suggest you buy your Auntie a copy of our local author LJ Ross book Holy Island - she will thank you for it

Ohh, thank you!

We are staying at the Beach House Hotel and will probably have 3 cars between us all, so we can definitely get out and about.

Off to look up that gorgeous sounding afternoon tea now!

Agree with everything here - I would have suggested them all too! It’s our new favourite place in this country - we’ve been every year now since our first visit in 2020

Great recommendations and I would second the Jolly Fisherman - it is fantastic but make sure you booked as it gets really busy!

Another nice place for tea and cake is Howick Hall gardens and tea rooms. https://howickhallgardens.com/ It is the ancestral home of Earl Gray so the tea is not half bad but the coffee is good to.. Gardens are lovely for a wander round to work off the scones and cakeage!

You are legally obliged to have fish & chips from the Neptune, Seahouses & a pint in the Olde Ship

We used to have caravan their & spent many a happy day & nights

The walk along the beach from Seahouses to Bamburgh is well worth it if you are able but either way Bamburgh is a must

as mention above the Jolly Fisherman Craster is fantastic & the Running Fox expec a doggy bag for leftovers as you get loads but easily the best afternoon tea

Glee Fan - Robson Green's Weekend Escapes on BBC2 at 6.30pm starts off in Bamburgh tonight (and it was filmed in the sunshine).
