NYC and Florida?
I'm currently daydreaming about a possible 2022 trip, I'm due to graduate that summer and am definitely feeling the need to have something fab to look forward to.
This will be for me, husband and two daughters who will be 12 and 15 by then. We tend to prefer the last two weeks of August for our holidays. I'm liking the idea of NYC plus Florida. Has this worked well for others that have done it? I was thinking about an itinerary along the lines of: Fly London - NYC Stay for 4? nights in NYC Fly down to Orlando 1 week at HRH A few nights at the beach Fly home TPA - London (We'd consider indirect to get a good price.) Does this sound about right? None of us have been to NYC before, is 4 nights enough given that the first one will be right after travel day? I'm thinking of booking the flights with BA as we got a good deal with them last time, and can include some of the hotels to make it a package. Any other recommendations? I'd only need car hire for the beach part, is it easy to hire a car from somewhere close by HRH and drop at TPA? On our last holiday we much preferred Universal to Disney, we all got stressed with the timings for ADRs FPs etc and the buses drove me crazy. So I'm mulling over whether I can go to Florida and not go to Disney There's also other factors like cost and length of time off work that makes me feel that this would need to be a one or the other trip. But we haven't been to Galaxy's Edge. Maybe it would be feasible to get one day tickets just for that? I know given the current situation most of the answers to these questions is who knows? But lets just imagine that that won't be a problem for now

Yes 4 nights/3 days is good for a first taster of the city, 4 full days would be ideal and there's plenty of flights connecting the NYC airports with Orlando so it's an easy multi-center.
You can do a multi city flight with BA and you have the option of adding car to flights to make a package or adding hotel or both. You don't have to pick up at the airport to use BA car hire and I think there is an Avis wither in the HRH or very close by You can do either into NYC and out of Tampa and get your own internal flights or book to NYC, NYC-MCO AND home from Tampa all with BA. |

When we did NY and Orlando, we went with KLM/Delta doing a multi city booking, you still get all your baggage allowance on the internal flight down to Orlando. NY has so much to do and see, you can fit a lot in with the time you’ve allocated, but if you could stay a couple of days longer in NY you will enjoy it more, the hop on/off bus tours are a must..NY then Orlando is a truly awesome holiday 😀

We did this a few years ago. We had 2 nights / 3 days in New York. I’d have liked one more night but we did loads in our short stay.
If worked really well. We did a multi centre holiday with BA which included our internal flight. |

If you plan well you will see a lot in 4 days in NYC.

It looks about right to me.
We have incorporated a 3 night stay into a couple of much larger vacations now and it has worked really well for us without it being too much (I regard a town with a population of 30k as being far too big). If you want to really push the boat out, you can AMTRAC very cheaply from Central Manhattan (Penn Station) to either Boston or Washington DC. either journey is a very interesting 4 hours and adds a further string to your bow for a couple of days. Then you fly on to Orlando.

We did NYC and Florida on our honeymoon, we loved it.
What you need to remember, is that you can’t see the whole of NYC in a week, just as you can’t see the whole of Orlando in a fortnight. Plenty of people just head to NYC for a long weekend... But you’ve got time to plan, prioritise what’s important, and enjoy your time. You won’t need to hire a car separately if you’re booking with BA, it’s easy enough to just add a car for part of your trip and may work out cheaper. Happy planning! |

Thanks all.
Just been doing some dummy bookings on the BA website, looking at equivalent dates for next year. It seemed to come out remarkably cheap - £6K for the four of us, direct flights, 7 nights at HRH and hotels in NYC, and Clearwater at the end. (I left these on the ones BA suggested as I haven't investigated these yet.) And yes, you can pick up a car from HRH, how convenient! I couldn't look at the internal flight, presumably they haven't been released for next August yet. Is that price Covid related or does that sound about right? Does it just feel cheap because I'm comparing it to Disney holidays? This definitely feels very possible now

So sorry you aren't going. Hopefully you'll be able to book something amazing for the future.
