Anyone been to London for a day or two during these strange times?

hi everyone

I'm thinking of going to London for short break or maybe even just for a day's shopping but not sure what the experience is like now, so grateful for any experiences recently

it's my 50th in 3 weeks and a day trip to London wasn't originally what we planned, but anyway, I'd like to do something and I'm off work for a week. We'd be travelling on the train and would have lunch somewhere casual and then shop shop shop.

I'm not looking for feedback about if people are following covid guidelines or not, I'm just cautious about booking anything as I think the usual enjoyable trip will be spoilt by all the restrictions. But, I'm tempted to give it a go and hopefully it won't be as bad as I think.

I've read a few things online about train seating being only for one person and if the shops are really busy, getting hot with a mask on will just wind me up

Megaflyer lives on South Bank I believe and will be best place to update on what’s open etc. Our office is open again but I haven’t been in. A colleague who is in yesterday told me many more people about this week and things opening (we are in The City).

London is reopening but its patchy . No hotels around here (and there are loads) are open yet so the lack of tourists are effecting what is open. Certainly shops are open, London eye re-opened this week, restaurants are opening but without exception, even for a casual mea, you end to pre-book. Same with bars you will need to pre-book a slot around soho and the slots sell out very fast. Some parts of London (Old COmpton STreet and Lower Marsh) have been pedestrian used with tabes on the street so you can dine and drink safely - don’t believe all the DM stories as generally everyone is being safe and respectful but not many mask wearers about (even on transport) - black cabs are sanitised on every journey and a new app called “Free Now” is good at looking at transport options (black cab, Uber (who now run clipper boats) and the like) and you can book ahead and a vehicle arrives within a minute - I haven’t used busses or tubes since march.

Any particular questions please ask as delighted to help

Hi

We’re currently in Windsor and everyone seems to be adopting the guidelines.

Masks to be worn in shops but not pubs/restaurants. To be honest though as much as we enjoy shopping we haven’t ventured in to the shops.

Hotels are not allowed to clean your room it will give you towels, coffee etc if you ask. One way systems are in operation too. Sanitiser is available in all areas of the hotel.

In our hotel restaurant, the serving staff all wear masks and gloves and bring cutlery, cups, saucers etc on a tray which you handle yourself.

We have felt really safe and because the weather has been so nice we have been walking and when we have stopped for a drink we’ve sat outside.

I was really apprehensive but I’m glad we’re having a few days away as we needed it.

Hope this helps...

I was in Tooting last week, in all honesty I wouldn't have known there was a pandemic on whilst walking around, busy crowds, very little distancing or mask wearing.

We went for lunch in a local pub and that had been done really well however, quite a contrast to the high street.

My friend has a 2nd home in Covent Garden however and they've been going down and really enjoying the peace and quiet, quite a contrast to the usual crowds.

Not been on the underground as we all drive down so I can't comment on that.

Enjoy

We have train tickets for 22nd. Could not book seats so hope it's not too full. I don't know how they manage social distancing. I will take a dettol spray and wipes, masks and hand sanitizer. It's an hour journey from ours. Underground will be worse as it's always stuffy. Also depends if London lock down before then. That will be another refund I'll have to fight for.

thank you for all this info, really helpful! we both absolutely love London and can't wait to go back. we often stay for a week in an apartment in the summer, but didn't do that last summer and now it's been not possible. I'll have to look at hotels etc nearer the time and hopefully we can be back there soon
