Smuggler's Run

1. How many people fit in one vehicle?

2. Can you request to be a particular position?

6 people. Rode it twice and both times they handed out the cards in the same order - 2 pilots first then 2 engineer cards then the last two people waved through got the navigator cards. Up to you to swap between yourselves

You can request to wait for a particular role. However it can be a bit chaotic. This morning we were pulled forward as a party of three from a fair way back and then said we actually wanted pilots and gunners and the CM was very snippy about why we hadn’t said before - erm, because you were insisting we come to the front, which is usually where you state which role you want! Be aware that single riders don’t generally get the choice as they are expected to fill the empty seats. Just to correct the above slightly, the roles are 2 pilots, then 2 gunners and then 2 engineers. And that would be my order of preference. (Gunner is great for kids - easy, no pressure, but lots of button pushing and getting to blow stuff up as you shoot it down.)

Once you have roles you can swap between yourselves. The left and right pilot roles are slightly different. Right pilot controls up and down (and the degree of control feels quite limited) but also gets to pull the hyperdrive lever. The left pilot does right and left and this seems to have much finer control than the up and down. It doesn’t seem to be getting great rap on here, but we think it’s a fun ride. Perhaps others have had higher expectations than us though.

Brilliant, thanks everyone! I wanted us all to have a go at each role but wasn't sure if you could swap between yourselves. Yay!

Next question - my mum won't ride anything that feels like you're high up or where there are quick direction changes, even in simulators (so Soarin', FoP etc . are out - she doesn't even like Peter Pan because you're a few feet off the ground ). I presume Smuggler's Run will be out of the question for her? I know I could Google a ride video but I don't want too many spoilers

You don't leave the ground with smugglers you sit in a cockpit, but the screen makes you feel lime you are moving!

Yes you’re flying so it would be the same as Soarin’ or FoP.

Gunners was our fav roll & the 5 times we did it it was a slightly different ride each time. A lot depends on the people you 'fly' with too, it can range from really fun/exciting to not so great !

I’d say it’s much more similar to Mission Space (the green one) or Star Tours than FOP or Soarin. The floor doesn’t drop away and you are essentially in a capsule with screens in place of windows. It does have good quality graphics and good synchronisation which I feel reduces the eye/ear/brain mismatches that contribute to motion sickness. Like any simulator though, I think there is a risk of motion sickness. I used scopoderm (travel sickness patches that I swear by) and has no issues at all - I also use them for the likes of FOP, Mission Space (only green!) and Star Tours.

We had a 9 year old and her mum as pilots and it was the most painful ride I had ever been on as they kept on crashing😩Couldn’t wait to get off it! The wait in the queue was better than the ride in my opinion as there was a short show and loads of photo opportunities 😀🙌🏻

You can also use the play app to do missions when in the queue. Actually you can use the play app throughout the land which most don't seem to know about.
