Absolutely. Some people appear to have lost all sense of proportion - particularly around the level of protection most masks actually give. Itís bordering on hysteria at times.

If you believe someone not wearing a mask for while on a flight will ruin a family holiday - then presumably you arenít going near an aircraft for a very long time to come.

For info - on our Ba flight earlier this week one cabin crew member had his mask on but permanently below his nose - largely due to the fact the cords were attached to a piece of plastic at the back and not around his ears.

They made the announcements about us wearing them several times - which I thought was a bit ironic.

To clarify Mark, I'm not saying people shouldn't have a drink whenever they want to. I'm referring to the "sippers" in the article I posted. Having a bottle of water in front of them with the pretence that they are sipping it throughout the entire flight, thus removing their mask 99% of the time and ignoring FAs instructions to put them back on.

If everyone was doing that, then yes it is unacceptable and puts people at risk more than necessary. Of course there is a risk at mealtimes, but nobody is asking us to put masks on 100% of the time, just most of the time.

We usually agree on most things here. Oh well 😂 Whether it's farcical or not though, the FAs have to enforce seatbelt wearing, floorspace, and a myriad of other safety measures - I'd like to make their jobs easier if I can.

Fixed it for you.

People on here even, saying 'but the evidence is so strong'. It isn't! It's 'weak and inconsistent' (WHO). The few times people link to studies they are airy fairy or have been done in lab conditions. The Danish study, which let's remember actually found a very slight benefit to masks but inside the margin of error, was memory holed for not having the politically desired outcome.

Yes of course 'it's bound to stop some transmission', I've conceded that all along. But take into account real world use and the amazing reputation of masks cannot be deserved.

I totally agree with Bozza's Swiss cheese. But which other slice of that Swiss cheese attracts such starry eyed zeal as masks? Or the £6400 fines as they were?

18 months later, common sense prevailing? We live in hope...
