Mobile Would you extend your stay if...

I have my accommodation booked at Disney and universal for next August with my 16 year old and husband. No flights booked yet. Today whilst chatting my husband says we'll why don't you two stay for longer! It would mean us flying out before him for however long and flying back with him... Question is would you/shall I and where to stay! I have a 14 day disney pass but only 5 nights booked at CSR. Thanks

I probably wouldn’t, no. It’s our family holiday so i couldn’t imagine going ahead of him and doing the parks without him knowing that I’d be doing them again with him in a few days time.

Only time I’d consider it is if he Could only go for one week, but then I’d have to tag on the extra time without him on to the end not the start.

If your disney tickets are linked to your stay im not sure you can get them beforehand to use,

Having said that yes i would probably go out earlier but my DH not likely to say that!

Yes if you and your son can and he can’t of course why not? Your lovely sounding OH is suggesting it so he’s fine with it. We are a family of four. My son is 20 and has stopped coming away with us this year. I’m not delighted but I’m wealthier for it and it’s entirely normal. I’ve taken my DD to WDW for two 9 night trips just the two is us when she was 12 and 15. Her brother is three years older and never batted an eye lid. He likes it less than us. He’s been skiing with his dad. Me and DD wouldn’t want to do that but don’t mind them going. They go camping too. We don’t like that. Me and DD have theatre and shopping overnight breaks together and Sometimes with DS, sometimes with all four of us, sometimes just my DH comes. I go to vinyl record sales miles away with DS. Hubby and daughter wouldn’t thank us for making them come with us! Our family isn’t defined by always been together. Every family is different and that’s all good. But if you’re all fine with it absolutely go. One to one time with any child out of the routine is always special.

yes I would, no question.
However - if you have booked your Disney ultimates with your 5 nights onsite at Disney and free dining, you can't start using your tickets for park access until your onsite stay check-in date. So, what would you do going earlier ie no parks? Or do you have 14-day Universal tickets too? You could use those before your DH flies in - but then again, that would mean you're doing park stuff (for the first time?) without him, are you all okay with that?

eta - I can see from previous posts you've visited Universal before with your family, so in your shoes, and presuming you have those tickets, yes, I'd go earlier and do Universal (staying either at the "value" options at Universal - Cabana Bay being an absolute favourite of mine - or at the top of I-Drive for easy access to the Universal area).

Edited at 08:21 PM.

Yes I would and I am this summer going out a week before my husband he doesn't like more than 2 weeks away but with the long school holidays it's a no brainier for me, much easier on holiday to entertain them than at home.

Yes go for it. If you don’t want to drive I would book a Disney hotel and use Magical Express and have a few days just chilling and checking out resorts, or Disney Springs. Perhaps Uber to a mall 😊

Thanks for the replies. My husband doesn't do any rides in the parks, he carries the bags and reads his kindle and takes lots of photos lol. He does enjoy the parks but we have before left him in the hotel and the two of us go in. He is self employed so can't go longer. We very much enjoy our time as a family and love florida. If we went I would possibly book one of the value disney resorts for the extra days...

In that case I can’t see any reason to not go. Best of both worlds. Get booking those flights & extra nights accommodation !
