Well done. I had my first one last year and i was so scared. Couldn’t believe how quick it was over. I was expecting it to hurt but it was a breeze compared to the sweeps i had when i was pregnant with ds

I think I found it painful because I haven't had kids, but it was over so fast that the pain is barely worth mentioning. Well done to us!

Just in case you’re anxious about waiting for results, had my second smear last week and got my results 6 days later so you shouldn’t have to wait long ☺️ Well done! X

Well done. I urge everyone please please PLEASE have it done. It’s never nice but it’s so worth it.
For anyone wanting reassurance watch Zoella on her YouTube channel she takes cameras along (they stay away from the business end) and I really admire that she did it. She talks about how she feels what the procedure involves etc and then asks the nurse all the questions that her followers have requested her to ask.
I had an abnormal smear in my early 20s and had to have laser treatment and then smears every 12 months after that so I’ve always kept on top of them.

I’ve just received my letter asking me to book an appointment. I feel a bit sick. A very small part of the reason I don’t want children is that I’m not comfortable having any sort of examination in that area, I had a very bad experience when I was younger with one. Obviously I’ll go, I just feel a bit sick at the thought.

Well done! My main tip is to wear a skirt, I always feel more dignified wearing a skirt that only needs to be lifted rather than having to take trousers and underwear off. Also, have a sanitary towel either in place or on hand when you get dressed. Breathe in when they do it and breathe deeply. It’s over very quickly.

I completely understand. There's nothing anyone can say or do that will make it feel 'ok'. You just have to do it! The anticipation is so much worse than the test, and the actual 'examination' part of it is over so so quickly. I have a thing about pregnancy in general, and I find it quite unnerving being around pregnant women and seeing or hearing about babies moving inside, let alone thinking about the actual medical things involved with having a baby. But I came out of my screening thinking 'wow, if I can make it through that, I can have a baby' that was definitely the adrenaline of the appointment speaking! The replies on here offer some great advice, best of luck with it

Just a quick point - you can take a chaperone with you and if you are worried at all, I recommend to do so.
