Last Minute question re cruise dining
...dress codes.
We are doing 3 nights Bahamas cruise on Dream leaving 4th July in the middle of an 11 night villa holiday. Impulse buy! Anyway, have read/heard that dressing up is optional for dinner, but have been reading the bumf which came in the pack and it says on some cruises there are nights when jackets are required. Hubby was planning on taking light trousers and collared shirts only, but I wonder if he needs something smarter. My son, 19, doesn't actually own a jacket, though he does own smart trousers and shirt. Do they need ties? I've packed two dresses and a pretty top with white linen trousers - will that be OK do you think? Thanks |

Three night cruise do not worry the most formal it gets is a dress up night which is optional.
You do not need ties. Jacket only if you want to do Palo Dinner. Your plans seem fine. Cruises with more sea days, which are longer say 7 plus have a formal night, even then not everyone dresses up. |

It depends on the meal.
Expectations are less on the short Dream cruises as they do not have a formal night. |

I've found with Palo that most guys wear a jacket and then once into the meal they take them off. None of the servers seem to object. I think the rule is to set a standard so that nobody is tempted to turn up in ripped jeans and a cut away T shirt. For the rest of the dining it's smart casual. You're on holiday and you want to relax. If you want to go a bit dressy then do so but please don't go to dinner in a bathing suit! We were in Parrot Cay on the Wonder when a guy turned up topless for breakfast. The Maitre D' asked him to return to his stateroom and put on a top.

W've done the 3 night cruise twice, and DH has never taken a jacket. Just a smart shirt, no tie.
