Hi
I've not been myself but I understand that the Caladesi State Park is a beautiful place to visit. The link will give you more information, its on the Gulf Coast (near to Clearwater I believe). HTH Diane |

My DH is a 'twitcher', especially of the raptors (birds of prey). We always go on a bird hunt whilst over in florida and last year discovered the National Audubon Society (like our RSPB); they have some beautiful places to go visit, check them out if they have a website.
We visited one of their places down in the Everglades, it's a 2.5 mile boardwalk in a nature reserve and is was fascinating. All sorts of wildlife in there. Another place is Homosassa Springs, north of St Pete's - another beautiful place to visit.

Try the Orlando Wetlands Park. It's about 20 miles east of Orlando on highway 50 in a town called Christmas. Search Google or Yahoo or the city's website for details and directions. It's free to enter, but they do take donations, I believe.
We've been a number of times and sighted everything from barred owls, ospreys, roseate spoon bills, bald eagles, swallow-tail kites, etc. Plus the land animals are great as well -- plenty of gators, otters, deer, and so on. The trails are bermed (raised) and wind about for a good number of miles. Maps are available at the parking area. Just remember to leave time to either loop the trails or return back as you can end up a couple of miles in the park. |
