Residents asked to self-quarantine after more than 30 people contracted Covid-19 at a Michigan bar

Residents of East Lansing, Michigan, have been asked to self-quarantine after more than 30 people contracted Covid-19 after visiting the Harper’s Restaurant & Brew Pub earlier this month, according to a press release from Ingham County Health Department.

The Health Department made the decision after residents visited the pub between June 12 and June 20 and reported cases of Covid-19, the statement said.

“Given the number of cases in this outbreak, we consider this a higher risk exposure than a typical visit to a restaurant or bar,” Ingham County Health officer Linda S. Vail said. “There are likely more people infected with Covid-19 not yet identified."

The bar followed all Covid-19 safety guidelines for employees, including the restaurant’s capacity guidelines and table spacing, according to the statement.

The restaurant opted to close down temporarily to install air purifying technology in the HVAC system and to create a strategy to eliminate lines at the establishment, according to a post on their Facebook page.

It is sensible. The availability of alcohol brings people out and clouds judgement. The US is not dealing with Covid-19 very well and needs to do more to control it.

Wow loads of pointing fingers! Bournemouth beach anyone? Massive park/street parties? Unfortunately they tried a thing called "Social Responsibility" & found out that it doesn't work! Some people think I'll only break the rules a little- spoke to someone yesterday whose daughter had been to visit from London, we're in Scotland so that's a no no, but it's ok she only stayed a few days!
I'm not defending Florida, personally whilst I think it was sensible to open, I do think that they opened the State to everyone else too early. When you look at most places/countries that seem to have it under control any new cases are (in general) being brought in !
As for alcohol ban, I think it's either that or shutdown, which may still happen

With the number of new cases sky rocketing in Florida every day, if shutting the bars doesn't work then a second lockdown is inevitable.
