Heathrow to Tampa via Chicago

Hi has anyone done this route that can advise what they thought of it .We live very close to Heathrow so ideal for us the timings look ok and we dont mind the drive the other end . Also any difference with things like immigration and car hire which we usually do via Avis . Thanks

You will do immigration in Chicago so land in Tampa as a domestic flight, pick up luggage walk straight out!

There is usually a train connecting all terminals to move between but when we went through in April it was closed and replaced by buses so took longer. I would recommend at least 2.5hrs connection going out or even 3hrs to be safe.

Chicago is subject to some huge thunderstorms in the summer which can lead to delays, nothing to worry about but something to be mindful of and always have that plan b in the back of your mind.

The train between terminal (ATS) is due to reopen sometime this winter.

When we were there last Oct, there were plenty of the Immigration Computer Units in the immigration arrival hall and we were through very quickly.

I would agree that 2.5 to 3 hours between flights would be adequate
