Haha, would not call us wealthy just strategic in buying everything on american express card and avios shop, even have paypal through my american express card.

We know approximately when we want to go and look for club class airmiles seats around those dates. It does save quite a bit.

Frequent flyer miles are not there to encourage more flying, they are there to encourage you to fly only with one airline.

If the only way to collect miles was to fly I might agree but with miles awarded for spending on certain cards and a Avios having a shopping portal that works in the same way as Quidco/Topcashback but giving cash back in miles it’s fairly easy to stack up miles in other ways without even setting foot on a plane.
It might dilute brand loyalty with holidaymakers but the target for this isn’t the once or twice a year fliers but business travellers who fly weekly and stack up the miles to pay for their personal trips anyway. The decision to fly for business is driven by different criteria . Removing miles might mean business travellers stick less to the same carrier but it wouldn’t reduce the amount they fly.

No, but it might change the cabin flown in. Managed to get PE seats out and business back next August with Avios. We would never have paid cash for those seats.

But imo air miles etc is fiddling round the edges.

Imo they key to reducing the climate change impact of the airline industry is taxation - set APD based on emmissions. Set out APD that decreases aggresively as emmissions decrease. Most flights are sold / bought on price. Airlines would then be willing to pay a premium for a lower emmission aircraft as they can charge less for seats (as well as the fuel savings). Manufacturers are then driven to design and build lower emmission aircraft.

Taxes on a flight to Florida are what, about £250. If there was the opportunity to cut that to say £50 the airlines would pay top $ to be able to do that.

If you want to do something about frequent flying increase apd the more flights taken in a 24 month period. 1 flight per 24 months normal apd. 2 flights in 24 months apd plus 50%. 3 flights in 24 months apd plus 100%. So each increase in flights in a set time apd increased 50%. After 2 years it’s reset and starts again. This will have more affects than getting rid of frequent flying rewards.

Nope... just might not check BA prices first 😂😂 I’m still going to go for value over blind loyalty!
