They can't make you keep rotten/rancid meat as it's a health hazard and should be disposed of.
Of course the way round it is to seal it up in a bin bag and freeze it. Then take the frozen product back. They can't moan at that.

Yes I had turkey from Iceland too. The dog has enjoyed it tho. My roasts (from scratch) didn’t go good. Other times they were awesome. I didn’t like the pigs in blankets. The cheaper ones last week were better. Husband says it was the worse Xmas lunch and I agree. I’ve made better Sunday dinners. Dunno why bother really. Had a lovely Xmas eve one tho.

I had this a few weeks ago in Aldi, The chicken was green inside and just gross. I photographed the bird and all the packaging. When I contacted the councils food standards they were able to locate the suppliers. I was told that there is a database so they can see if the same suppliers at fault. So it is worth anyone affected to call their local council.
The food standards lady told me that the green flesh is a muscle disease caused by the bird being fed too much growth accelerant. I was appalled by Aldi and will never buy any fresh from there again. I had to call head office just to get a refund. At least mine was just a midweek tea and not Christmas Day ruined. Edited to say that food standards did say that it would have been useful for them if they had had some of the bird frozen for them to examine but I hadn’t done that. Edited at 09:55 AM. |

Growth accelerant! Yuk!
It does make you wonder what the heck happens to our food.

We’ve had Iceland’s turkey crowns for the last three years and find them excellent. I’m really surprised to read this!

She did say that if eaten the chicken would not have actually harmed us but agreed she wouldn’t have either.
As a nation we are wanting food as cheap as possible and suppliers cut as many corners as possible. Our meat is pumped with water making it tasteless and fed all sorts to make it grow. This year I bought my turkey from our milk lady who rears them herself. It was a lot more expensive than I usually pay but it was absolutely delicious and worth every penny. |

I buy 2-3 chickens every week (roast for the dogs) from Aldi or Lidl (depending where I fancy shopping that week... I buy fresh if I’m not cooking them that day or the next I freeze them whatever the sell by dates... don’t know why really, just very wary about poultry... I just wonder if they put use by dates that are way over-optimistic to sell more...

I find it amazing that in this day and age of cut throat competition that supermarkets are risking their customer base by declining standards and quality. Is it as a result of an upsurge in the likes of Lidl and Aldi which force other mainstream super markets into a headlong chase for cheaper products and consequent poorer quality to try and compete? Will the ultimate consequence be a high street consisting purely of Aldi and Lidl supermarkets and Amazon 'pick up points'?

Looking at the photos of those turkeys has made me feel quite nauseous and I feel for people who had their Christmas dinner ruined
Frozen turkeys have been really cheap over here this year, as cheap as 59c per pound for different brands. It does make you wonder how they raise these birds for that kind of money Hope everyone affected gets their money back x |

That’s awful!
I’d be so upset whichbjs probably an overreaction but Christmas is such a lot of effort. Our turkey yesterday wasn’t great which is why OH wants us to do it again now we’re back home today. The one we had yesterday was from M&S. fingers crossed this Sainsbury’s one is nicer!
