I’ve recommended it to quite a few people now & they all say it works for them.

OP: I also love my parrafin wax bath. If she hasn’t already got one, might be a nice Xmas present for your Mum?

I still can’t quite work out how it works though, can you?

Me neither. It’s so much better than the old ibuprofen/Deep Heat type ointments imo.

It is the rubbing... people rub a liniment with no active ingredients much more (surprising amounts more) than one with active ingredients, the rubbing and warmth generated from that will penetrate deeply and make things feel much better. So, although there is nothing in the gel to actually lessen the symptoms, the fact that you are actively choosing to take care of yourself with it does.

People tend to "fear" active rubs - some will even put gloves on to stop it absorbing into their hands - this hugely lessens the effectiveness of the actual rubbing.

Not this one, it specifically tells you not to rub it in, you just put it onto the affected area and wait for it to dry before covering it with you clothes x

Please check for any interactions with other meds your mum may already be taking, or conditions she may have, just because you can buy it over the counter doesnt mean it will be safe for every individual!
Luckily she works in a doctors surgery so can easily check with the doctor.

Will have a look at them, any particular one you would recommend?

Mine’s a Remington but I’ve had it for years. Just had a quick look online. Homedics seem to be the most popular make. I’d probably get one of those if I was buying a new one.

I just tried one of these the other day, I can definitely see how it would help.
My friend swears by hers.
