Studio tram tour changing to Cars Route 66 (Summer 2020)
From Ed92 on twitter twitter/ED92live/status/1183813809301082117
🚗“Cars Route 66” will be the new name of Studio Tram Tour: “Buckle up and join Cars stars Lightning McQueen and Mater for a fun filled family road trip where you’ll discover natural and mechanical wonders along the legendary Route 66”. Summer 2020 at Walt Disney Studios Park. Edited at 12:50 PM. |

This certainly feels like a 'temporary' attraction to maintain capacity in the park whilst all the renovations happen but hopefully it will be good fun.
The new park map for WDS shows that the Cars version will be a significant cut down versus the current Tram Tour route (top right of the map). Effectively the current station and everything on the left hand side of the attraction, including the Reign of Fire sets will be gone to make way for the expansion. The loading station will move to behind Toy Story Playland with a new queue etc and Catastrophe Canyon looks like it will stay with a Cars overlay. |

It definitely feels like that to me as well, Stubbs86. I think if the theming is done well it will at least fill a purpose whilst the park is so bare.

I’d be happy to go on that ride - we’re about the only people I know who actually enjoyed the old Tram Tour! Obviously it needed updating, and Catastrophe Canyon was always the best bit for us, so I think we’d be pretty happy with this new version.

Is it still open? I want to take my husband on the tram tour as it’s a Disney classic to me. Wanted him to go on it before it closed

It is still open in its current format at the moment. They haven't announced a closure date for it as yet, but as it's just a retheming rather than any major work I would guess they'll probably close it in the Spring ready for a Summer opening.
