Car seat questions
We are hopefully returning to Florida sep 2021 but this time will be bringing a child 😀. This obviously opens up loads of questions but my most pressing is about car seats. My son will be coming up 3, we will be getting a taxi to Gatwick so will need a seat then and I've heard you should use a car seat on the plane now?
What did you all do? Any help would be greatly appreciated and also any other tips about travelling with a toddler as I'm clueless 🙈. |

Take whatever seat you are using at the time, most airlines will carry it free and at least you will know it’s history rather than hiring one.
We never used one on the plane, they always went in the hold. |

We travelled in the summer with our car seat and had invested in a car seat cover. Had cover with luggage label on at the ready Used seat in taxi to the airport, jumped out and zipped into bag and then it went with the luggage. It's there then when you need it the other end. We travelled with Virgin and the seat was free to take as an additional item.

I’ve never seen one used on the plane before.

It's not necessary to use the car seat on plane. Some people do but make sure you check with your airline first as they only approve certain seats.
We will be taking our own car seat when we fly next weekend with Virgin but will be packaging it up and transporting it in the hold. |

We took our own for our twin granddaughters aged 3. Bagged them and had them put in hold. No need to have them on the plane. Isofix fits the US ‘latch’ fixings. By the letter of the US law, seats should be certified to US standards, but there’s no evidence that this has ever been an issue, and we’re happier to take our own than rent on arrival.

We have used car seats on the aircraft when they were young. We had the britax eclipse design, they need to have the aircraft approval rating.
We used them on several airlines eg British Airways, American Airlines, the only time we had an issue was with Air France. I personally think small kids are safer in a car seat on an aircraft as they properly strapped in with a 5 point harness ! Once they got bigger we purchased bags that could be used in the holds. |
