Mobile Booking indirect flights advice

We are looking at flights for next year and unless virgin drastically reduce their prices we will book indirect.
We live pretty close to Manchester so flying from London is a no go really?
Where do you go for quotes?
We usually get prices direct from virgin & Thomas cook.
As a family of 5 we would only want one stop over really.
Any advice? Hints or tips?
Thanks

Ps, why do BA not fly from Manchester?

Have a look on the BA website as they code share with American and Aer Lingus, so you could do 1 stop flights from Manchester via Dublin (AL), Philadelphia (AA) or Heathrow to Florida.

Alternatively, have a look at Kayak or Sky Scanner.

We're in the same situation as you - although perhaps not as close as you to Manchester I really don't want to go to Gatwick or Heathrow. I've been at work all day and this is the first time I've had chance to sit down and look at what is out there. I'm fearful for what I'm going to find.

We did price up on sky scanner the other day. The same flights is £400 more today.
I think it might be worth waiting until things settle down over Thomas cook

Set up alerts on Skyscanner for the flights/dates you’re looking for.
You’ll get emails with any price changes (up & down) for the flights you’re interested in.

We have just booked replacement flights with Virgin, we are going indirect outbound from MAN-JFK-MCO and direct on the return. We have never flown indirect before but the price was too good to not jump on having lost out TC flights.

Our layover time is 2.45hrs which i think is pretty good - I think...

What dates are you looking at? Mine all seem very expensive for Virgin, Manchester to Orlando.

28 April to 20 May £1188 for economy outbound and Premium Inbound - seats where filling especially for the premium return - only annoying thing was it did not allow me to select seats for the 2nd leg but we don't have kids to worry about and all the seats are going to same place at the end of the day - its not ideal but, for us atleast, its better than not going

EDIT P.S - that is for 2 adults

I have been thinking exactly the same today, we booked Thomas Cook flights so am on the lookout for other options from Manchester. Our dates are not out with Virgin yet, it I’m thinking they won’t be cheap

I’d try and wait things out for a little while. Flights for 5 (I’m in the same position) are extremely expensive at the best of times. I’ve managed to get some Manchester - Atlanta - Orlando on the way out and via JFK on the way back with a comfortable 3 hour layover on the way out and 1.5 on the way back for £550 PP but that’s not school holidays and all my small people are 15 and over.

Last week I could have found similar for £450 and last night they were £230 more each!

I’ve booked for the peace of mind but I do think another carrier will come on board and ease the issues with demand and supply from Manchester.

My heart goes out to everyone who had booked via Thomas Cook and more than anything their staff. Paying more than I hoped and flying indirect is a minor inconvenience when a travel company of that size folds and 3000 staff from the Manchester area is bound to have a huge impact.

Hope you find something suitable and try not to panic - I’ve booked as late as Feb for August before when I just couldn’t justify the prices and eventually they did drop and I’m sure they will again.
