Total route time would be around 90 minutes if the traffic is good, which in Rome isn't that often. So it could be anything from 2 to 3 hours to do a complete route, one of the days we could see the final stop (station) but were stuck in traffic for around 40 minutes.

I can't recommend doing this enough, we were there last August (40+) it was so hot in Rome so yes you could walk around but the heat is very draining and takes the fun out of sightseeing.

I have the same problem with my feet so I feel your pain, I also have had spine surgery so these buses are a real plus for me.

Just to add far to hot when we went to walk so the money spent on the hop on hop bus well worth and the information we got was very interesting.

Just back from Rome at the weekend. In the past we have always done a HOHO bus tour wherever we went to get our bearings and learn a bit about the area but we decided to wing it on this trip and just wander the streets, coming across things and enjoying being there as opposed to rushing to the various sights.
We stayed 3 nights near the Piazza Navona but with flight times had almost 4 full days. We walked absolutely everywhere and didn't feel the need to use taxis, buses, metro etc. In total we racked up over 50km in the 4 days. Lots of exercise but we did lots of eating too to counteract it . We all agreed that we enjoyed the ambling through all the wee streets and taking it all in just as much as we did visiting the main attractions. I'm sure it would have been a different experience in the stiffling summer heat though. |
