Roku or new Fire Stick?
I'm wanting one of these media players as I may be ditching Sky if I can't haggle a good deal when my current deal finishes in a few months. We'd mainly use it for Netflix and Now Tv, picture doesn't have to be groundbreaking as we only have a 36" 8 year old Panasonic and it suits us well. I'm mainly looking for ease of use and being able to get the channels I want. Can any help and tell me if one is better than the other or are they much the same? Thanks

not used a roku box in a few years, but of the two, i would choose the (new) fire stick every time.
although personally, i recommend the firetv box over the stick if the budget can stretch to it (you can usually get the box for around £60 if you pick up a refurb or wait till its on offer) hth |

btw, ive never used nowtv, so i cant comment on that aspect of it, but i use my (gen1) firetv for netflix, amazon prime video, uk tv apps (iplayer, 4od, uktv/dave mostly) and for kodi to stream media from my home server and it is used daily for between 3-7 hours per day - it's my main media device - i cant even remember the last time i watched a freeview channel live (probably NYE at midnight! although i was so drunk by then i dont remember what we did!) - usually when i watch a show live, its 'only connect' on iplayer
i have a gen1 fire stick in the bedroom, and whilst it does all the same stuff, it just runs a bit slower, and navigating menus and stuff is noticeably laggy in comparison. its fine for occasional use, but would quickly get frustrating if i were to use it daily (saying that, the gen2 firestick they sell now is reportedly much faster, so these issues are hopefully resolved) |
