Narita Airport to Central Tokyo
What have people found to be the best form of transport to get from Narita airport to central Tokyo. Staying about 15/20 minutes north of the Disney Parks near to Nishikasai.
Weighing up all the different options so any input is welcomed. Thanks guys and girls! |

Hi,
I tend to use Nex - the Narita express train - for my quick work trips a return ticket is ¥4000 and I can get to shimbashi (via Tokyo station) all on the same ticket. I have used the Keisei skyliner, which is more of a pain as I have to switch at ueno, but still pretty straight forward. I have also used the very cheap bus transfer Access Narita which cost ¥1000 yen and took me to Tokyo station. Overall, I like the NEX best. It's quick, has free wifi and gets me where I need. 😀 Edited at 10:14 PM. |

I do not know the station you will be getting too, but on my second visit as my hotel was not an immediate stop on the Narita Express, we took the limousine bus, which was very nice. I didn't fancy lugging the luggage on the Yamanote line as its very busy...
On the return, we got a taxi from the hotel to Tokyo station and then got the NEX on the way back,

The end point is the Kasai stop on the Tozai line. I dont mind a little public transport, always up for a challenge. So anything to Tokyo Station is relatively straightforward to get to where I need to go.

I took the NEX from Tokyo station to the airport and it was easy. I had a 29" suitcase as we had been in asia for 2 weeks and had no issues.

I would agree, I never have an issue with luggage on Nex (loads of storage space) or even yamanote or the other connecting lines from Tokyo station. If you need a luggage trolley then sure, you’ll struggle, but with an ordinary case and bag - no issues.
Depending on the time of day, the bus options may get stuck in traffic - train options are VERY efficient. |

We did this exact journey at the end of March as our first few nights in Tokyo were in Nishikasai. We opted not to get the NEX partly down to cost (it is included if you have a JR Pass - although technically everyone needs a seat reservation and you need to go to a desk, not a machine to get one. We had 2 week JR Passes during our 3 week trip so opted not to activate them until a week in). However it is also not necessarily the most convenient to that side of the city. And, of course, we had time to kill before we'd be able to check in to our hotel anyway!
So we took the Sky Access Line to Asakusa which then turned in to a Toei Line train (i.e we did not need to change) which we stayed on to Nihombashi (A13) where we changed to the Tozai Line to Nishikasai. (Be aware that Local and Rapid trains run on the Tozai Line and both Nishikasai and Kasai are not served by every train.) We did this journey with two medium sized suitcases and a carry-on backpack each, plus a very tired 6 year old and has carry on backpack and it was no problem at all. If you take the NEX I'm pretty sure you'll need a minimum of two Metro Lines to get you to Nishikasai, so probably not any easier. |
