I tried with PPI on my mortgage but got knocked back. I was paying total mortgage protection (TMP) but apparently didn’t have PPI. I’m not sure if I should try again?

This thread and others like it elsewhere goes to show that the vast majority of claims are just bring paid out regardless of whether the claimant did or did not know they where purchasing PPI in the first place as the banks have no idea or how to check.
I am not saying any one on here is just chancing it but I know some who did know what they where getting into claim that they didn't know just to get a big payout.

The mis selling of PPI isn’t just about whether you didn’t realise that you had PPI. It’s also about knowingly accepting PPI, but this amounting to a mis selling. For instance being forced into accepting PPI as part of a loan or where the protection given by the PPI just wasn’t needed eg if you had a job with sickness and redundancy protection. There is also the newer case law of Plevin, where the proportion of money kept by the company was beyond reasonable. All this is spoken about in more detail on MSE. People may not have a clear memory of a loan they took out several years ago. They may not have a memory of whether they had PPI. That doesn’t mean that they should lose out on fair compensation. It’s not a racket. It’s a reasonable thing to enquire about and claim for.

For those using a company to investigate for you, how long did it take for them to respond? I sent forms off about 2 months ago and heard nothing!

I just rang my banks PPI helpline, but they could only help with Nat West/RBS PPI products. Anyway I registered with them, and I'll have a look at the MSE resolver to see if that helps with other loans/cc card's. I think a lot of people have the problem of simply not being able to remember about finances from years back.

Hi so I posted on Saturday that I had emailed each of the companies who I could remember having a loan/credit card with and received an immediate response from whoever bought the marbles card that I hadn’t had ppi and yesterday had a response from MBNA saying that I had two cards known to them one which had ppi dating back to 2003 and one that didn’t.
Having had a look at what they say are the next steps I have to fill a form in which is quite simple but I’m off back to the FCA website first which I found easier than the mse one. |

I completed the Barclays form online some days ago (I was thinking about an Egg credit card I had some years back) and I have not heard anything at all. Is this right?

Barclays or Barclaycard? They are not the same and handle PPI claims very differently.

Barclays are very good at dealing with these claims. You should receive a letter to confirm they’ve received your complaint. They may phone you to ask for any further info. If it’s only been a few days, then don’t worry.
