Where to stay in Savannah

April's trip is just going to be just the two of us, me and DH
Was thinking of driving up to Georgia and maybe going to Savannah.(only place i have kind of heard of)
Didn't fancy going into Atlanta, id rather go some where where the buildings are beautiful and there seems to be more history.

We have never been before and i haven't got a clue which area to stay in. Have any of you guys been before and if so where did you stay.

Our budget wont stretch to the really expensive hotel/BB. (got trips planned for Sept/Nov and now April)

Just any pointers will do.
Going to do a nice slow chilled drive up

We drove up from Orlando and spent 5 days in Savannah
We stayed at the Inn@ Ellis Square which is now the hotel indigo.
It’s within walking distance of the Riverwalk, five guys burger restaurant and downtown Savannah.
We got a map and walked around the squares some are prettier than others.
We did a tour but felt we saw just as much by walking.
We also booked a ghost tour but the tour host was rubbish, so we ended up walking away ( she concentrated all her comments to an American lady at the front and didn’t include anyone else in her narrative)
But Savannah is gorgeous and a millions miles from Orlando .
We also drove out to Fort Pulaski which we both really enjoyed and Wished we had more time in Tybee Island as that was so quaint and pretty.

Savannah is great, we stayed at the Hyatt last time and it was a good location near the riverfront. It's a place we really should re-visit.

Last year we stayed at the Savannah B and B Inn which was absolutely wonderful. Really well placed for everything you want to do.

We stayed at the Staybridge Suites just across the road from the river. It`s a lovely area, lots of bars and restaurants close by. The rooms are lovely, and Tues to Thursday they have a free drinks reception for an hour at 5pm... what's not to like.
It`s a lovely city, we did the trolley tour which was great. We also ate at the Pirates House, highly recommended

Charleston is also a lovely place to stay, I`d certainly recommend it, and not too far away.

We stayed at the Holiday In Express Historic distric which is a great location in E.Bay St just across road from Riverwalk area. There is a multi-storey car park next door to save on valet parking.
We up the, then came back down via St Augustine which is a fantastic place too.

We are driving up to Savannah from our villa in Cape Coral (SW Fl) next week for 3 nights on a little road trip to meet family coming in from Oz and have rented a 3 bed condo as there are 4 of us on the trip. Will do a report when we come back to Cape Coral. It looks amazing!
