Mobile SIM card for 3 month trip

My daughter is off to work at Camp in New York next week. She’s away until mid September.

It looks like 3 only works for 1 month at a time so I’m wondering what her options are.
She has one evening in NYC before heading to camp so it has to be something easy to find if she buys it in the USA as camp is in the middle of nowhere.

Have a look at this page - maybe no easy options for you? Seems AT&T would be best network to use and only this and T Mobile will work with unlocked USA handsets.

I'd be tempted to get 3 x Three PAYG Sim Cards - use one for 30 days each - create 3 accounts - you can manage them online. "Call, text or use some data at least once every 6 months to keep active". Might work - means changing number every month though. You could post the next 2 sims to her?

Will she have access to wifi where she is at? Most online stuff now can be done through wifi?

You just renew the PAYG sim each month. you can do it on the phone with the 3 app.

The THREE SIM can be used each month, it simply requires a fresh £15 top up which can be done online.

A BIG word of warning ...

- Coverage isnt as wide as other UK networks or a native network

- It is not 4G and the 3G service is throttled. So she would struggle to stream music and video and video call if not on wifi...something i imagine a teenager needs to do!

- IMPORTANTLY Three's "Feel at Home" service does NOT include contacting USA/local numbers or UK Mobiles in the USA that aren't on Three's "Feel at Home" (e.g. if they're on O2, Vodafone, EE). This is massively chargeable.
"Feel at Home" is only "free" when contacting UK numbers that are back in the UK or other Three "Feel at Home" users.
This is important because if she makes friends out there she's going to struggle to stay in contact with them.

This is my recommendation.

- Get a Three SIM for Feel at Home for at least the first month
- Also get a USA SIM for a month
- See how she gets on and then top up whichever is needed

I added details to the guidebook: https://www.thedibb.co.uk/forums/Usi...USA-p-427.html

Sadly that webpage you've linked to is misleading and contains missing info. It doesnt cover data speeds and doesnt state that Three's Feel at Home is only free to UK-based numbers and other Feel at Home users abroad. Plus O2 and EE now offer inclusive packages.
