Question Tinnitus experiences and flying?

My DH has developed hearing loss and tinnitus. He gets very bad static sound around his head and it is so loud he can barely hear me speak or hear the kettle boil etc.
Some days are worse than others.

He has stopped going out for fear of sudden noise (alarm going off, clang of someone dropping metal etc) affecting him.
.
He is afraid to fly because of the cabin pressure.

I just wondered if anyone has or knows anyone who has a similar condition and whether or not they have had a similar experience. Can they fly or have they opted to fly and what was their experience?

Thanks so much

I have tinnitus, but by the sounds of it not as bad as your DH. I hadn't really thought about any problems flying as I've got used to it over the past 18 months.

Interested to see what others say

I have tinnitus and use noise cancelling headphones (from 7dayshop) to keep the noise of the engines from affecting me too much.

I have it quite severely in one ear. Never stopped me flying. You have to learn to accept the noise. Actually noise doesn't exacerbate it - mine is stress and meds.

Mine is in one ear too. Did they send you for an MRI?

Actually this is really interesting. Hopefully for you also. It's quite rare in only one ear.

I was diagnosed with a mix type hearing loss (both types)in one ear as well as Tinnitus (thought to be caused by the loss). I was seen privately and by the NHS.

I was sent for an MRI (checking for brain problems) - no issues. I always reported that on occasions and felt liquid in my canal behind my ear and it only cleared when i bent over, if I stood up again, it blocked again.

Nothing was found, so hearing aid it was, at the cost of £2k.

Then I found out about something called Eustachian-tube-dysfunction, the NHS never mentioned this and it's not thought to be a cause of Tinnitus on its own, but I beg to differ. This specialist from Beverly Hills was suggested from a Tinnitus forum and he posts on Youtube. I tried the video below and unbelievably the fluid disappeared immediately.

Basically its a way of making the tube open, but you need to be careful, I carry out the manoeuvre a few times a day and whilst the tinnitus is there, but quieter, I now have no hearing loss after being tested..

Now that is beyond interesting, I have been sat here reading this with tinnitus and I’ve had fluid behind my ear drum for a few days now. The dr wouldn’t give me anything at all for it. i dosuffer from labrynitis and sinus trouble . So I thought what the heck , I’ll try it .
I’ve just felt some of the fluid drain! And my ear isnt ringing as much I’m going to do this again tomorrow.

Trust me, stick with it, I had the same advice and I do it 5 - 10 times a day and all my issues have gone completely.

Ive lived with tinnitus all my life, i explain to people what i hear and they dont believe me or claim it would send them mad.
I am 47 have no real hearing loss im going to watch the vid next.
I use noise cancelling headphones when flying, but i find even in a complete silent room the tinnitus is louder.
