San Francisco to Yosemite drive in Feb... snow?

I'm starting to contemplate my back up to Oct which is Feb half term.

We are driving San Francisco to Yosemite. I know in Feb I'll need snow chains in yosemite which I'll not be able to get for my hire car so had planned on park & ride into yosemite itself.

Now I'm worrying... what if its actually snowy on the roads on the way to Mariposa where we'll park? Anyone done the drive in Feb and offer any advice ?

While I cant answer your question specifically, I can say that when we went to Yosemite in June 2019, there was still quite a bit of snow around at the higher points. I think most of that area is hit by heavy snow throughout the winter. Hopefully someone with more specific advice can advise further. I don’t think I would take the chance. The roads are quite narrow, steep and winding with sheer falls at the side.

Yes 2019 opened 1st July after they cleared 25 ft snow drifts in early June and then had to repair the road
