She has settled into Uni life much better than I expected, she’s not loving it but not hating it either so I’m taking that as a win!
She’s not a big socialiser and has only been out with her flat mates a handful of times but she’s ok with that, it’s baby steps with her. When she goes back on Monday I’m hoping she comes out of her shell a little more this next half term 😀
With regards to online learning, her course is 100% face to face and I’m shocked and saddened that a few of you are having so little of it! I would definitely be complaining to the relevant department as that is not on, especially as other Unis have managed to adapt!
Thing is my dd, doing English prefers lectures online and seminars face to face. She has time to analyse and take notes, replaying parts, gaining a full and thorough understanding of the subject.

They have arranged it so that the online lectures are at the start of the week and if they attend live they have break-out rooms after for discussions with the lecturer overseeing. And then the face to face seminars are in smaller groups at the end of the week when they have had the time to digest the contents of the related lectures.

Works well for her way of learning.

I’m not against some online learning, I know my DD wouldn’t be either but when you’re only getting an hour or two once a week of face to face with a lecturer then that is what I find unacceptable

Yes, I’m disappointed too. She goes to campus twice a week ….for a grand total of about 1hr 15 mins a week. Everything else is online - even ‘practical’ IT sessions. This is a Russell group uni too! Other courses at the same uni have a better balance of online / in person. They had a session last week where a lot of the students on the course gave the same feedback saying there wasn’t enough face to face content. Next week she has an extra in person session, which hopefully is the sign of things to come. If things don’t change in the next few weeks, we will Follow up further with the uni.

My daughters lectures even though they are face to face they have access to the, afterwards, so can replay them, update notes etc.

It was good to see her this weekend, she had a great time at Hairspray and meeting up with her friends. Took her out for cake and hot chocolate and a shop at sainsburys, she’s gone back with some good meal choices and some nice treats

How is everyone’s daughters/sons now they have been there a good couple of months. My daughter finishes on the 17th December, so home either that day or the Saturday.

She is going looking at a house tomorrow with her friends to rent next year which seems mad to be considering so soon.

Time is really flying isn't it?

I've just signed up to be guarantor for my daughter's share of the rent for her house for next year. It does feel ridiculously early, but I'm glad that she's found a group that she's happy to share with and, together, they've agreed on a place to live in.

She still seems to be getting on well - seems happy and enjoying herself. I'm so thankful that is just so happened that this was her first year, and not last. I do feel for those that had their first year to adversely impacted last year.

Mixed bag still for my DD. She’s getting her head down and getting on with her course, but Most of it is still online and consequently she has met very few new people. One of her flat mates has just left uni because of it. Consequently DD is struggling to find a housemates for next year (her existing housemates that are left aren’t an option as they are either doing placements or already have arrangements). So she’s not sure what she’s going to do and it’s causing some anxiety.

Her course finishes on 10 December for Christmas and she’s coming home on 12.

I’m so sorry your DD is feeling like this and still doing everything online when clearly a lot of other Universities aren’t.

Which University is she at?, are all courses online like your DDs

My DD is in 2nd year and living at home, her course is now all face to face she’s doing primary education. Very different from last year! She has a friend elsewhere who is still mainly online but is doing drama and theatre studies so think he’s struggling with online but they’ve told him it’ll change after Xmas, strange how all Uni’s are so different with the courses and the learning.
Let’s hope after Xmas these kids get the learning they actually pay for!

DD is getting on well so far, we are surprised how organised she has been with food shopping and meal planning, she is going into uni full time as well so that has helped.
There is 5 of them in her flat and all get on well so far and do things together, 4 of them including DD have applied to stay in the same flat next year, the other one wants to move into a house to have that experience.

We haven't seen her since late September so are going over to see her for a few nights at the end of November and then she is home for Christmas on the 18th December.
