Need a holiday - please recommend

OK here is what I need;
Just me on my own long weekend
Within about 90 minutes drive of Taunton
Really relaxing hotel
B&B preferred
Stuff to do nearby - unusual shops or some gardens or stately homes - nothing exciting!
Willing to spend for the perfect place
I desperately need some chill out time
Please help!

We are currently in Windermere in a B&B only for 2 nights, but so needed to get away for a few days. It took us about 90 minutes to get. So far walked 4 miles and had dinner by the lake. Tomorrow we are getting the bus you can hop on and off saves driving.

Windermere is at least four hours from Taunton

Do you have a hotel you can recommend?

We did a 3 day trip to the Bath area in the summer.

We had a day in Bath; booked the Roman Baths and had a wander round the streets too.

We did a day in Wells; lovely little city with nice streets & shops; the cathedral is gorgeous but next door is the Bishops Palace and that was out of this world stunning.
They have Christmas Illuminations at the Bishops Palace; looks lovely.
There looked to be some nice hotels around the Cathedral Green.

On our last day, we did the seaside town of Clevedon with their beautiful Victorian pier.

All within your 90 minute drive-time.

We stayed around 2 miles outside the centre of Bath for the 3 nights..
Nice gastro pub who’ve converted the old stables into 8 rooms last year; the rooms are all self contained within a separate courtyard complex with access via a locked gate opened with your room key so separate from the pub.
Very comfortable with high spec finishes.
Good food too.

No sorry, we will be staying in our motorhome at Bath Marina, they have a bus stop outside that runs into Bath quite regular 😊

An odd one for you…. Bodmin Jail.

A 30 million restoration has been carried out and one of the blocks has been converted into a really nice Hotel. Atmospheric, historic and (reputedly) haunted. The rest of the jail is a really interesting museum in its own right.

Within a mile walk are..

The Bodmin Museum in the town square that tells the story of the famous lunatic assylum really well .. for the wakes, I can assure you that this is what it was called so I make no apology.

Bodmin Steam railway, authentic, 1950s and a nice ride to Wenford and back in corridor carriages akin to Harry Potters trip to Hogwarts.

Cornwall Light Infantry Museum, loads of History and exhibits including the Medals of Harry Patch, last Brit to survive WW1.

Further up the road and on the Moor.. The Jamaica Inn as in the book by Daphne Du Maurer.

A short drive to Boscastle.. pretty and the scene of the horrendous flood some years ago. Besides being very pretty along the lines of Doc Martin, it has a Witchcraft Museum.

Not to far away, the Eden project. Excellent food there, in the restaurant between the two big biomes.

Always glad to help!
