London pass?
Hi all,
We are going to London 30th Aug for 5 days driving down from Yorkshire. We are staying near Wembley stadium for 3 days with parking and then 2 days at Thorpe Park. Managed to get the Harry Potter Tour but not until 5pm (think it was a cancellation as it wasn’t showing any tickets left for nearly all week). My question is; would we be better to buy the London Pass that I have seen advertised as we want to visit the Tower of London and has the hop on bus tour included? Or should we just buy the family ticket for Tower of London (£82) and just use the underground everywhere? The Natural History Museum doesn't have an tickets left and don’t want to risk getting over to Kensington and not be allowed in if no walk ups left. So that is off the list now. My sons are 6 and 14 so was just going to use contactless cards on the tube. Any help appreciated. Thanks Edited at 01:25 PM. |

We went to London for a few days week before last and I stupidly spent my tesco vouchers on a hop on /off bus.
I found it hard to find the bus stops, you got on a bus only for it to stop after 5 minutes because it was end of service so you had to switch to another bus. In the end, we gave up after waiting 45 minutes for a bus and caught the tube as we had a booking at the Shard. Maybe we were unlucky but the bus was a total disappointment. |

I live in London so have never used the London Pass. Just having a look it doesn't seem very good value. But if you are definitely 100% going to do the hop on hop off bus tour and the combined price of both is more than the London Pass then I suppose it's a no brainer. But you have to do them both the same day I believe.
The HOHO buses are alright, but personally I prefer the boat cruises as the commentary is live and usually quite funny as well as being informative. (we usually use City Cruises, second time I've mentioned today on this forum I promise I don't work for them!). Yes contactless card is the easiest for you. Your 6 year old doesn't need a ticket if travelling with an adult (they just walk through the larger double barriers with you or step on a bus with you). Your 14 year old will need a ticket, and this is a bit more complicated. I think it would be easiest, given the number of days you will be in London, to buy him a child travelcard as if you use contactless it will charge him an adult fare. Edited at 01:37 PM. |

As a Londoner I would use the tube to get around BUT as a tourist I would say that the buses will give you a grounding of where you are unlike the tube. When I was working, for first time visitors to London we always bought them a Big Bus tour hoho ticket. They have a website that shows you all the stops and what is nearby for the red and blue tours. The boat tours are also good and are another option but remember some tourist attractions are not near the river (although a lot of familiar sights are). You are going to spend a while on the tube getting in from Wembley so it might be nice to go above ground for some of the more interesting stuff. Also, I noticed already that traffic is increasing as some schools return next week (DS is a teacher) so the tube may be busier than it has been.

We travel down from Yorkshire but We’ve never bought the pass. The tubes are easy to navigate but in honesty sometimes it’s easier to walk. London isn’t that spread out really so doable especially on a warm day as the tube is unbearable Look on groupon London for a city cruise pass . It’s nice hopping off the boats rather than buses. I recommend the Houses of Parliament tour as it’s open at the moment . Churchill wars rooms is also excellent . Attraction tickets have slightly cheaper tickets for Tower of London .
Btw the Tesco meal deals ( loads of express in the city ) and Wetherspoons pubs are great for family’s . There is a really nice one up at the tower and one at bank and one down in Trafalgar , saves you some pennies x

We bought the London pass for a 2 day trip in August. We found it exceptional value.
We used hop on hop off, Uber Thames boat, St. Paul’s, Westminster Abbey, Tower Bridge, the Shard and Tower of London. Pretty sure we paid about £180 for 4 of us and I remember thinking we’d had our money back after two attractions. Really easy to use too via the App. Well worth it and would certainly do it again. |

We’ve used the London pass every time we’ve visited London. The best value pass available for us. So many world class attractions, museums, castles etc etc. Can definitely recommend
