Mobile London transport

We are going to London for a long weekend - I can see I can use a contactless card on the bus and tube for adults but what do I need to do to pay for my 11 year old? I can’t seem to find the info.

Not sure at what age kids need to pay, think it is 11, I got my kids a visitor Oyster card, at a tube station staff can put a child rate on the card worked well.

When we arrived in London this summer we asked at a station and were told that our 11 yo didn’t need any ticket so we didn’t pay for her all week. However I now think that might have been wrong advice and it is actually under 11s who go free, but nobody ever asked her age when staff let us out of the tube exit gates.

Have a look at the fares section on the Transport for London website. Lots of useful information. tfl.gov.uk/fares/

Found this

Children under 11 travel free on most public transport services when accompanied by a fare-paying adult, or with a 5-10 Zip Oyster Photocard. Children aged 11 to 15 years old can get free or discounted travel with a Zip Oyster Photocard, or a Young Visitor discount.

We didn’t get let out, we just scanned at the larger gates with DD. Either one of us with DD, and the other through the normal gates.

Doesn’t help the age thing though as DD is 6.

We asked today saying she was just turned 11 - the member of staff said that was nearly 10 so no need to pay!

I read today that they can use a gohenry card but will be charged the lowest adult fare.

Technically it is the Zip Oyster Card for 11-16.
Free travel on bus and half price tube/train fares. My DD has one now she's 11.
